THE BENEFITS OF ENERGY-EFFICIENT WINDOWS – More than just dollar savings

New windows can help reduce your energy bill significantly; while actual savings vary from region to region depending on current heating and cooling costs and are generally greatest where there are hot summers, cold winters or both.

In addition to lower energy bills, new windows with Low-E glass deliver more comfort, create less condensation, and protect your valuables from sun damage better than conventional clear-glass double-paned alternatives.

On cold winter nights, do you avoid sitting near the window? The cold, inside surface of an inefficient window pulls heat away from your body, so you can feel chilly in a sweater with the thermostat at 70 degrees. With new, energy efficient windows, the interior glass stays warmer, so you can enjoy your window seat even when the temperature outside dips well below freezing.

On winter mornings, is there moisture on the inside of your windows? If an inefficient window or window frame gets too cold, indoor moisture can condense on interior surfaces. Condensation damages sills, cracks paint, and encourages the growth of mold. Our energy efficient windows keep the interior of the glass and frame warmer, reducing the potential for condensation.

In summer, do some of your rooms feel like a sauna? A typical double-paned, clear-glass window allows approximately 75 percent of the sun’s heat into your home. Windows with Low-E coating transfer much less heat without significantly reducing visible light, so you get the light you need without the uncomfortable heat.

Your favorite photograph, your child’s artwork and even your couch can fade or discolor after repeated exposure to direct sunlight. Most Low-E coatings, the same coatings that keep out the summer heat, can reduce fading by up to 75 percent. These coatings act like sunscreen for your house, blocking damaging ultraviolet rays without noticeably reducing visible light.

If you live on a noisy street you will appreciate the difference new windows make. Just going from single pane to dual pane makes a huge difference, but if you have an especially significant noise problem, ask us about  a very reasonable upgrade to "offset glass" or using laminate glass. There are also windows made with triple panes just for noise reduction, but they are costly and often not necessary.
